History at St Peter’s has always been a large and very successful subject, with as many as fifty students (undergraduate, graduate and visiting) studying at any one time. In the friendly academic competition between Oxford Colleges it is acknowledged that St Peter’s historians are among the most successful in the University. Not surprisingly students go on to the leading law firms in Britain and abroad, to the Bar, to politics, to write for national newspapers, to be correspondents for the BBC and to teach.
Donations for the support of History in the college have been crucial to our recent success; our ambition now is to ensure that St Peter’s remains one of the best colleges in Oxford - and one of the best institutions in the world – for the study of History. We are seeking funds for a variety of projects from endowing the College’s two History Fellowships to establishing a research fund and supporting the History Collection in the Library.
