Student hardship

Accepting a place at University is a major financial decision.

The average student will now leave university with a debt of £25,000.  Even the maximum student loan available from the government barely covers the cost of rent and food in Oxford, and most students do not even receive this much support.  It is up to parents and students to fund the deficit, a major and often impossible burden for low and middle-income families.

That St Peter’s offers bursaries and hardship grants to those in financial need makes a real difference to our students.  The availability of such support encourages bright students from less able backgrounds to apply to St Peter’s and takes pressure off those who fall into financial difficulty while they are here.  Your support is essential if we are to continue with this important aspect of our work.

Each year, money donated by our friends and Old Members helps us support many genuinely needy students through their time at St Peter’s.  However, the rising costs of living and dwindling government support mean there is an urgent and pressing need for more.  Please help us help more of our students by making a gift to the student hardship fund.

  • £3000 will fund a full named bursary for one year
  • £1000 will provide urgent financial support for a genuinely needy student
