Chemistry
Oxford offers a four-year Chemistry course, leading to an MChem degree. The first three years of teaching are by lecture and tutorial, as well as laboratory practical classes. In the first year, in addition to studies in Chemistry, aspects of Physics, Biology and Mathematics of relevance to Chemistry are also covered. Fourth year students undertake a research project and write a thesis; potential topics are not limited to pure Chemistry, but include investigations in the field of Biochemistry, Biophysics and the History of Science. Much of the research work in Chemistry is undertaken in the new £69 million Chemistry Laboratory. For further details see www.chem.ox.ac.uk .
Teaching at St Peter's
St Peter's normally admits four or five student each year to read Chemistry, and employs a specialist tutor for each strand of Chemistry: Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. Each of these tutors also provides teaching for Trinity College, and the teaching of chemistry involves considerable interaction between the two colleges. During the fourth year, chemistry students become members of the Middle Common Room and assume the status of graduate students within the College.
