History of Art

This is a relatively new course, introduced in 2004. It is designed to provide innovative insights into a wide range of world art, drawing on the expertise of specialists from both the academic departments and Oxford’s galleries and museums. The University’s extensive collections, including the Ashmolean museum, providie subjects for first-hand study. For further details see www.hoa.ox.ac.uk

The course at St Peter's

The College normally admits two students per year for this course. For social and some academic purposes they are integrated with the College’s History students, and although most lectures and other teaching take place within the History of Art department, some tutorials are led by the College's History tutors. The College is conveniently located for lovers of art, being particularly close both to the History of Art Department, the Ashmolean Museum and Modern Art Oxford.

Every autumn the College provides a term’s residency to a professional artist under the Helen Chadwick Scheme in association with the British School at Rome. In recent years, St Peter’s students have organised a summer arts festival.
